This is my girl Erika. We met at church in Edmonton because her and her sister recognized me from my blog. haha. So funny how that happens...sometimes I forget people follow. Anyhow, it's definitely a blessing to know her and her family because they are my second family here. And I love their style. You can follow her on Chictopia here. (ps. Don't mind the background, it was taken in the coat closet at church ha)

How would you describe your style?  I would call it fashionably comfortable, I guess. Loose shapes balanced with some structure, accessorized with edgy pieces.

What are you new years resolutions or goals?  Finish school, get a job and travel around Europe. That would be the life... I would also like to excercise more, try more new food, and take better care of my body. Sleep is my biggest goal. 8 hours would suffice. I usually get about 4.

Favorite beauty products?   I love mascara! I never wear just one brand though, I layer about 2-3 mascaras on my lashes because each mascara is good for something else. Rimmel and Maybelline for mascaras are pretty affordable. I also love geo GiRL's Cream Blush, I have it in 'Eco Peach' I think...and it's fantastic AND all-natural. I use it for my cheeks, eyelids and on my lips when I'm pressed for time. I got it in Walmart, and I heard rumours that the line was kaput, so now I have to find a new brand. :( Wine lipsticks are also a must. My favourite is 'Bordeaux' by Rimmel. SPF 30 moisturizer from Olay is a must. Then I use St. Ives's Collagen moisturizer at night. And I use Neutrogena's Deep Cleansing Oil-Free Cream Cleanser. If your face is taken care of, you don't have to wear as much makeup. And when I exfoliate, I use St. Ive's Apricot scrub. For my hair I use Tresemme heat protector, Bath&Body Work's True Blue Spa Shea Cashmere Dry Shampoo, and straight up 100% coconut oil on my hair when I need to deep condition. And an array of perfumes. I love wearing different scents because I find that your body chemistry changes the scents of perfumes depending on the time of the month. Oh, that looks like a really long list...

What are your closet essentials?  Easy! Man sweaters, band/graphic tops, skinnies in different colours, maxi skirts, flats with interesting details, boots, and thick wool socks. I try to dress warmly for the typical Edmontonian winters, but I still want to look cute doing it, so these are pretty much my essentials. And since winters here last more than half the year, I just stick to those items. For accessories, I really like rings. A lot. The chunkier, the better. Especially if someone provokes you, that ring becomes an insta-weapon with a suckerpunch.

You have 5 minutes to get ready, what do you put on?   I would grab jeans, a loose tee, and some flats. Depending on the weather, a sweater and boots. I'd make sure that the pieces I choose would have some graphics too.

Currently topping my playlist...
Oh man this one's hard!  Umm...
There She Goes - The La's
    Intro- M83
Mat Kearney- Ships in the Night
    Lucy Schwartz - Porcelain
    Mree - Grow
Mree- Walking in a Dream (Empire of the Sun cover)
    Taylor Swift- Treacherous
Taylor Swift feat. Gary Lightbody- The Last Time
    OneRepublic- Feel Again
    Imagine Dragons- Demons

If you could give one piece of style advice, what would it be?
Wait, can I have a top three? One advice is hard!
a) Don't look at sizes. Try on a couple of sizes and wear what fits best.
b) Never invest in passing trends. If there is a trend that I like and I feel like I can pull off, I try thrift stores first.
c) Wear trends that work for your body type. I really like the look of those super duper long sweaters, but since I'm short, it over powers me. The goal is to look your best, and that works when YOU wear your clothes, and not your clothes wearing you.
Recent obsessions..... Purple eyeliner, Eddie Redmayne. Mary Kate and Ashley movies, straight across bangs, chivalry, SKYPE and those double chocolate cookie crisps from IKEA. Just from the last two weeks...

What are your hobbies?  I love to sing, play guitar, make mixes. write. I also really like to paint, and make magazine collages, but I haven't done that in ages. I love being around people and I am definitely very social when I'm outside of the house, but I'm such a homebody. I love staying home, so most of my hobbies are things I can do inside.  And I feel like I'm always cleaning, so I guess it's a hobby too. Not that I want to clean all the time...

What are your current favorite blogs?  Yours, obviously! I also really like cotton and curls, jaynsarah, apair-andaspare. and a Beautiful Mess

How would you describe your style? I honestly don't know how to answer this question. I feel I'm not into fashion enough to fit into any specific category. I like a bit of rock and roll, vintage, bohemian, chic, edge, etc. but whether or not this translates into the way I dress may be debatable. If I were to attempt to describe my style, I guess I would say it's a mixture of a toned down version of each style mentioned above. If that makes sense...which it probably doesn't.
Who or what inspires your style? Real people. Street style found in all of the cities I've lived in and my favourite fashion bloggers is where I find most of my inspiration.
What are your 3 closet essentials? An oversized/boxy top, a pair of slim-fit jeans, and a cool pair of ankle boots are my closet essentials. I love this combination especially with the top loosely tucked in the front. You just can't go wrong.

Favorite food/dessert? I go through phases with food where I love something to death, insist on eating it every day, get sick of it, then move onto something else. At the moment, I'm really loving pasta.
How do you piece together your outfits? Style doesn't come naturally to me. I can easily pick out an individual article of clothing that I love out of a pile of stuff, but putting it together in a look takes a bit more effort for me. I usually have to try on every possible option before feeling confident enough to wear it out. It normally takes me quite a bit of time to get ready because of this.
Tell us 3 random facts about yourself...
1. I'm full Filipino but I sadly don't speak or understand Tagalog.
2. I have finger toes but I'm ok with it.
3. I have a somewhat debilitating fear of the dark.
Favorite beauty products? Oooohh, tough question. I love my makeup. I can seriously get into any product that can enhance one's natural beauty and confidence. But if I had to choose a few, my favourite looks couldn't go without a dark brown khol pencil for tightlining the upper and lower waterline, a matte bronzer for adding depth and drama, and blush for brightening the complexion.

If you could give one piece of style advice, what would it be? Have confidence. I feel that this attribute alone can determine whether or not anyone can pull anything off from a bright lip to a fashion forward piece of clothing. I can admire any kind of personal style as long as it is carried with confidence.
What's your favorite fall trend? I'm really liking the colour burgundy for the fall. On the lips, on the nails, or on a piece of clothing. The colour is both chic and edgy and seems so fitting for the season.
Currently on my playlist... I don't have a playlist but I do have a few favourite cd's that I like to take with me when I go out. I'm currently listening to: Kings of Leon "Aha Shake Heartbreak", Beirut "The Rip Tide", and Kanye West "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (Clean Version)".

I spotted Natalia at the bus stop after work. I love the military camo jacket. I've been wanting one and think it's a fun piece for fall to mix it up. Thanks Natalia for being so kind :)

tumblr love

I'm not very familiar with tumblr but there is a lot of inspiration that comes with it. One of my favorite tumblrs is Wearing the Pants. I love the classy and often modest styling. Very inspiring for outfit ideas! Any tumblrs you like to follow?

STYLE FILE | Holly Taylor

Meet Holly! Her blog is original and is one of my favorite daily reads. I enjoy her taste in fashion and her lovely photos. This was a really fun interview and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did. Please stop over her blog here.

NAME: Holly Taylor
AGE: 22
HOMETOWN: Kent in England

How did you decide to start a blog? What do you blog about? I graduated from University last year with a degree in fashion promotion and needed a personal space to vent and write. I had come away from University knowing I wanted to become a writer, maybe not as a career but I had discovered it was something I had enthusiasm for and it helped getting everything flying around out online or on paper. My blog is primarily about fashion and my personal style but I often discuss books I'm reading (I'm addicted to Classic Literature), films I have watched, art and other areas of culture purely because I get inspired by everything and I wouldn't be able to write and blog about fashion without mentioning other subjects on occasion. For these other topics I try to get them published elsewhere, I am a contributor for an arts & culture online newspaper called The Flaneur and have had my writing published on Hello Giggles but sometimes they sneak onto my blog.
How would you describe your personal style? What/who inspires you? I think I dress a bit like a grown-up little girl, the kind who goes to boarding school with jumpers over shirts, peter pan collars, brogues & mary-janes but then likes to go on adventures. The kind of girls you find in Enid Blyton's Famous Five and Swallows and Amazons for example, they are courageous and always so brave, something I wasn't as a little girl and try to make up for now. I like their spirit of adventure, the idea of getting out, climbing trees and camping is exciting, much more exciting than being warped by technology. I also get really enthusiastic about elderly men. It may sound odd but I love tweed jackets with elbow patches and loafers, they are gentleman and have such a classic style, preppy in a way. I am also very inspired by the look of bygone eras, there is a reason they are still popular today. They are timeless and effortless.

What are your favorite accessories? I am very much a shoe person but think I need to become a bag person. I am useless and pretty careless with bags which is a shame because new bags don't give you blisters or cause you pain for the first few weeks. Then again, bags have it easy, they carry your things whilst shoes carry you.
You have 5 minutes to get ready, what do you put on? It depends where I'm going, it doesn't take me very long to get ready normally but if it was during the day I'd grab my breton stripes, jeans and some red ballet pumps. Easy but it makes me feel a tad Parisian, oui oui
Favorite indulgence: Shoes, definitely.
What are some trends you love right now? Least favorite? Collars, matching your bottoms and top and ladies gloves, to be worn with dresses and outfits as an accessory and not just to keep your hands warm when it's cold. My least favourite trend would be anything sporty or athletic, I despised sport at school and would turn into a clown during lessons to distract from the fact I wasn't doing anything, later on though I just skipped the classes, became an enigma to everybody and hid away from the world. I'd be a walking talking oxymoron if I tried to carry off the sporty trend that just always lingers around every season.
What clothing item would you say is timeless? The white t-shirt, it has to be my favourite item of clothing. Thank goodness for Marlon Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire, who knows when society would have found it acceptable to wear it as a top and not as underwear. Everyone praises him for his acting and his iconic rebelliousness (including myself) but hello, he made society think it was okay to go about in your underwear and look cool at the same time.

What are your current favorite blogs? I love reading We Live Young, Nirimmi's writing is so impassioned and her free-spirit is much to be admired, she influences me to look at the world differently. Others would be The Man Repeller, Thrills and Frills, Calivintage and Discotheque Confusion. Their personal style is slightly different to mine although I do love what they wear, I just really inspired and                                                                                                  ....................................................motivated by their writing.
Currently topping your playlist:  I built a playlist on my Spotify that includes the likes of Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Brigitte Bardot, Edith Piaf as well as people like Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Bill Haley but I played it through so much Spotify is refusing my ears from getting anymore enjoyment from it until I feed their wallets. Boo, hiss.
What are your must have beauty products? I don't wear much make-up, I just make sure my skin is healthy and hydrated so I use Clinique's face wash and moisturiser. One beauty product I am always on the look out for though is lipstick, I like bright reds and pinks and then of an evening sometimes I go a bit deeper with crimson. I don't wear it everyday though because I worry I'd get sick of it, it just makes a nice change sometimes.
Thanks so much Holly for coming over!

blog love | frassy

If you haven't heard of her, meet Audrey from Frassy. She is a 23 year old American living the life in Paris, France {a girl's dream come true}. I found her blog a while back when I was discovering the blog world and I'm intrigued by her unique style. I like her funky fresh, over-the-top style and it inspires me to dress the way I want to, to go all out, to be original, to have fun dressing up, to not be afraid of what others think and to just be me. I hope to inspire others like she has for me.

I'm absolutely in love with streetstyle. It's my favorite. I just think it displays raw, creative, fresh, and individual style. I hope to get the courage and do more in my own city.
